- You will get some ideas to refresh your basic Spanish.
- You will know to use some free tools available on the Internet.
So, relax and take some notes from our post. We’re sure that we’ll give many ideas to learn Spanish and master this wonderful language.
A original version, a real immersion.
A real immersion is possible today. The Internet gives many opportunities to live the language you’re studying without spending a single coin. One way to start your training is developing your oral comprehension, a skill which involves some difficulty for Spanish learners.
Unless your level is intermediate or advanced, we suggest that you avoid movies with subtitles. Podcasts that include transcriptions or some supportive paper are more suitable for your basic level. Try to select chapters in which contrasted accents are offered. The explanation for that are based on the idea of enriching your phonetic memory and overcome the barrier of the standard Spanish.
Let’s have a look at some examples!
Podcasts in Spanish.
A spoken Spanish radio show must include either a transcription or a worksheet. On one hand, it involves a extraordinary support for a beginner student. On another hand, it reduces the level of initial frustration. Therefore, we are going to introduce to two radio shows to learn Spanish.
En sintonía con el español.
What will you find there? En sintonía con el español are produced by Instituto Cervantes. There are 17 chapters about different linguistic contents: culture, grammar, vocabulary, as well as a downloaded audio, interactive digital activities, a chapter transcription, and so on.
- Prepárate: easy activities to break the ice and feel comfortable with the topic.
- Escucha: an audio that can be downloaded.
- Comprueba: activities to practice the oral comprehension.
- Reflexiona: two activities to practice the topic what is developed in the podcast.
- Amplía: extra material to learn more.
Besides, every podcast contains digital tasks from Instituto Cervantes website for learners.
Do you know ivoox? That is a great website plenty of audios: news, entertainment, comics, movies, to learn languages… The experts call this format audios à la carte.
There you will find Alcalingua, a podcast from the Language Service of Alcalá de Henares University (Madrid). They regularly uploads a monthly chapter and the structure is similar to a radio magazine. Unfortunately, a transcription is not included. About the usual contents, we must say that debates, suggestions to do something, replying some doubts… make up the usual contents.
Faro de Lenguas Magazine.
We don’t ignore one of our flagship: a podcast to learn Spanish and Hispanic culture. How does it works? Every Monday we arrange a radio show for students so that they could resolve common doubts about Spanish. The audience is widely beginner.
In addition, Faro de Lenguas Magazine gives you the chance to belong to a community of learners. It’s very easy:
- Visit our community: www.patreon.com/farodelenguas; there you are different podcasts with a transcription and some extra material (for example, a worksheet).
- On the right column (rewards), there is an option called Be our patreon or fan. Choose it and formalize the payment application. As soon as you do that, you will have complete access to all podcast and the learning material.
As a member of the community, you can leave a comment in each chapter, talk with other students and learn Spanish together.
A foreign language cannot be understood without its cultural element. That’s why you are able to enjoy Friday’s edition. Just as Monday’s edition, this podcast offer a challenge and a transcription. All of them available in our Patreon community.
Advantages of listening a podcast.
One advantage of listening to a podcast is its mobility. It’s so easy as downloading, keep it in our device and listen so many times as you like. More you listen to a podcast in Spanish, more you understand. In fact, you will be creating a habit. It means that your brain is processing the new information and you get used to listening the new phonetic sounds. Bit by bit, you will recognize single letters and their pronunciation, then, complete words, and, finally, the whole sentences. This exercise is as if you go regularly to a gym. At the beginning, everything is hard, but, after some time of training, it becomes easy.
Centro Virtual Cervantes.
Lecturas paso a paso.
My favourite section of Centro Virtual Cervantes is Lecturas graduadas (progressive readings).
As you see in the picture, each reading is like a structured lesson:
- Instructions before reading.
- Learning card.
- The story.
- Activities after reading.
- Information about the author and the book.
The learning materials are digital. It means that you can resolve every task by ourselves pushing a single button. On other words, an approach based on the self-study. In order to do the digital activities, you should download a supportive software or plugin in your computer. Click here to do it!
Other online resources from CVC.
- Pasatiempos de Rayuela.
- Otros materiales didácticos.
- Foro didáctico.
The perfect complement.
First, take advantage of our suggestions when you want to study at home. Second, practice the new input with your online teacher. Have you already booked your lesson? Visit our shop and buy a package of 10 or 20 tutorings. After that, send an e-mail and book your lessons with your teacher. That’s all!
